Bhutan Jomolhari Trek is one of the most popular trekking in Bhutan. There is very little tourist traffic on this trekking route. This trekking offers a taste of the great diversity of the Bhutanese landscape. Tiger’s Next Monastery – A Famous Monastery of Bhutan

Before starting Bhutan Jomolhari Trek visit Tiger’s Nest Monastery, the most famous and beautiful monastery in Bhutan. The next day we drive to Drukgyel Dzong from where our trekking starts. In the fascinating Paro Valley, we walk to the green rhododendron forests and follow the winding trail up the valley crossing the shiny glacial streams.

The view of the countryside becomes clearer and takes us to Jangothang where we set up camp near the sacred mountain of Jomolhari (7,326 m). Continuing towards Nyele-La (4,700m) we see views of the amazing Jichu Drake (6,794 m), Tshrim Khang, and, Lingzhi Dzong at the top of the hill.

Trekking from Lingzhi to Shodu is the hardest day where we cross the Yeli-La Pass (4,820m). The trek ends at Dodena and from there we drive to Thimphu.

Day 1

Arrive in Paro and transfer to the hotel.

Day 2

Paro excursion trip (hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery).

Day 3

Drive Paro to Drukgyel Dzong and start trek to Shana (2,850m) – 5 to 6 hours walk.

Day 4

Shana to Soi Thangthangkha (3,750m) – 5 to 6 hours walk.

Day 5

Thangthangka - Jangothang (4,050m) – 7 to 8 hours walk.

Day 6

acclimatization day (excursion around Jomolhari).

Day 7

Cross Nyele-La pass (4,700m) and descend to Lingzhi (4,100m) – 7 to 8 hours walk.

Day 8

Cross Yeli-La pass (4,820) and descend to Shodu (4,100m) - 8 to 9 hours walk.

Day 9

Shodu to Barshong (3,600m) – 6 to 7 hours walk.

Day 10

Barshong to Dolam Kencho (3,400m) – 5 to 6 hours walk.

Day 11

Dolam Kencho to Dodena (2,600m) and drive to Thimpu.

Day 12

Drive Thimpu to Paro for final departure.

Can I visit Bhutan myself?

No, you can only tour Bhutan through a licensed tour agency that must be registered with the Bhutan Tourism Council. All tourists visiting Bhutan must book a trip to Bhutan through a tour operator such as Odyssey Treks.

How and where to apply for a Bhutan visa?

Tourists are not allowed to apply for their own visas and visa application services are not available at Bhutanese embassies. So, you can apply for a Bhutanese visa only through the official and registered travel agent and Odyssey Treks will handle the whole process for you.

Is altitude sickness common in Bhutan?

With the exception of a few cases, altitude sickness is not common among visitors to Bhutan. The first two days should suit you as most of the sights are less than 3000m high. If you want to go trekking (which is above 3000 meters), it is best to avoid overexertion and keep yourself hydrated. Consult your healthcare provider and take medication if necessary.

Are women safe trekking to Bhutan alone?

Yes, it is. Bhutan is considered one of the safest countries in the world for travel.

Is it possible to trek alone without joining a group?
