Trip Overview
Introduction to Lower Mustang Trek
Lower Mustang Trek, known as the Forbidden Kingdom, has a semi-arid and desert landscape. Mustang district is located in the western part of Nepal. Trekkers do not need any special permits to trek in the Lower Mustang region. Refresh your journey to the hidden treasures of Nepal in the backdrop of two massif mountain ranges, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri.
Lower Mustang Trek is a wonderful experience as you pass through the world’s deepest gorge, i.e., Kali Gandaki, and enjoy breathtaking views of many mountains in dry and barren land, such as Mount Annapurna, Mount Dhaulagiri, Mount Hiuchuli, Mount Nilgiri, Mount Machhapuchhre, and Mount Tukuche.
The Lower Mustang Trek covers the southern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, and it has a wild, dry, and barren landscape like the Tibetan Plateau. The Lower Mustang Trek is not only about its unique wild landscapes and the deepest gorge in the world; it is also about the vibrant villages, the sunrise and sunset views between the mountains, the unique cultural encounters, the biodiversity, and Muktinath.

The main attraction of this trek is Muktinath. Muktinath is a popular spiritual center and attracts many Hindu and Buddhist travelers around the world every year. The Muktinath Temple is actually a symbol of harmony that shares the two religions of Hinduism and Buddhism. The eternal flame that burns here, with the help of natural gas, is an attraction that will amaze everyone.
During the trek, bathe in natural hot water.
Bathing in the spring of natural hot water in Tatopani may act as a cure for fatigue. As you walk further, you will cross some amazing villages like Ghasa, Tukuche, Marfa, Kagbeni, Jomsom, and more. Marfa Village is popular for apples that are cultivated locally. Likewise, Jomsom is the center point of this area, which includes many hotels, shops, banks, and other government offices.
Cultural encounters and interactions with locals are a wonderful way to gain some insight into people, lifestyles, cultures, and traditions. We guarantee the whole trek will be a wonderful experience. Especially when you are hiking from Muktinath to Kagbeni village, passing through houses painted with white clay will give you the experience of exploring the untouchable culture of the Mustang people.
The Lower Mustang Trek also gives you the opportunity to explore and experience the traditional lifestyle of Nepalese living in the high mountains. Walking on this trail requires no previous hiking experience, but you should be fit with zeal and enthusiasm. Get ready to experience the beauty of the Himalayas as you walk through the wild and barren land, enjoying the unique Tibetan-dominant Buddhist culture. We hope this is one of the best journeys of your life.

Thank you a lot for your organization about my trek. It was a superb experience; all was perfect. Karma is a very nice person and a good guide. I appreciated trekking with Odyssey (a reliable Nepal trek operator). If I come back to Nepal, I will be happy to ask you to trek with me again. I am thinking about Annapurna or the Everest trek.

Nepal
Have just returned from my fourth trip to Nepal and as always Odyssey Treks organized everything superbly. We visited Makalu relatively late in the season and were rewarded with empty trails and amazing weather. Karma was as entertaining, friendly, and informative as ever along with Ang Dawa Sherpa who together made the three weeks perfect.
They also organized a few days to Helambu at short notice as I had some time spare, all done easily and professionally. Thanks for the company both and I will be back again. I cannot recommend Odyssey highly enough as a genuinely friendly, locally based company that provides not only unforgettable experiences but also great service at a very reasonable cost.
Thanks.
