Tourists visiting Nepal has increased
According to the Nepal Tourism Board, foreign tourist arrivals in Nepal have increased by 91 percent amid the global COVID-19 pandemic. About 16,000 foreign tourists visited Nepal in January 2022, compared to 8,874 in the same period last year. According to the National News Agency, tourist arrivals have increased by 91.3 percent. All the tourists used the air route for arrival. In the same period, 17,984 Nepalis have left the country for foreign countries.
This improvement in foreign tourist arrivals amidst the crisis has certainly helped the affected tourism sector. This number of tourists has given the message that foreign tourists have started coming to Nepal. It has also provided energy to the virus-affected tourism sector. Among the tourists who visited Nepal in January 2022, the highest number of 5,505 from SAARC countries were 3,916 and 1,231 from India and Bangladesh respectively. Others were from Europe, Asia, and other countries.
